Rwanda Gorilla Safari 7 days
Day 1: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest
On arrival at Kigali International airport, meet your booked Rwanda safari and tour guide, who will then escort to Nyungwe forest park in south western Rwanda. Arrive in the park and book your overnight accommodation from Gisakura Guesthouse.
Day 2: Nyungwe Forest Chimpanzee Tracking
Start your Chimpanzee tracking in Nyungwe forest by the mid morning after your breakfast. The tracking experience can sometimes last a few hours and some times more than 5 hours of intense trekking.
Beside the feeding chimpanzees, there are golden monkeys, Rwenzori colobus, L’hoest monkeys, silver monkeys, mangabeys, owl faced monkeys and many other primates that you’ll find along the trails.
Day 3: Transfers to Ruhengeri
Board your tour van for transfers to Ruhengeri a small suburb village on the foot hills of Virunga Volcano Mountain Ranges in northern Rwanda. Volcanoes National park is home to more than 500 mountain gorillas that share the dense rainforests bordering Rwanda with Uganda and DR Congo.
Arrive in the area during the early evening after a long hours drive. Check into your preferred overnight and dinner accommodations from Gorilla Nest Luxury camp, La Palme up market hotel or Kinigi Guesthouse.
Day 4 & 5: Gorilla Trekking
Experience a lifetime adventure with two days of ecstatic Rwanda Gorilla trekking from Virunga Volcanoes National Park
The day starts with breakfast and transfers to the park headquarters at Kinigi from where short briefing sessions are held. In groups of 8 persons, begin gorilla tracking under the lead of experienced park rangers and guides. Carry your lunch boxes and camera since the gorilla can be seen sometimes after long 3-8 hours of intense trekking.
You have a maximum of 1 hour to enjoy the gorillas each time you meet the silver back family or a black family, take their pictures but remember they can sometimes be aggressive.
Trekking can sometimes be through long slippery trails after heavy rains. Pack their appropriate gear as advised by the park guides.
Dinner and overnight accommodation will be from Gorilla Nest Lodge, mountain Gorilla view lodge, Gorilla Hotel Kinigi, Kinigi Guesthouse and from luxury La Palme Hotel.
Day 6: Golden Monkey Tracking
Begin day 6 with a full English breakfast and then head for the forest walk, this time tracking for the rare Golden monkeys that inhabit the Albertine rift alone. The Golden monkeys are a rare primate species and live in small numbers around the Virunga volcanoes, in Bwindi forest park Uganda and in the dense forests of DR Congo.
Take a visit to Dian Fossey’s grave and learn more about her Gorilla conservation efforts at Karisoke Research Centre located with the volcanoes park. Uganda safaris will offer you the best encounter on your tour.
Day 7: Departure
Take your morning breakfast before transfers to Kigali airport for early departures.
